Developed on speculation by a builder, this beautiful single family home in Chicago’s Roscoe Village neighborhood lacked some of the individual charm that was desired by the new homeowners. With jamesthomas’ design assistance, the space was transformed. Custom millwork was added throughout to create unique and personalized spaces – converting a bedroom into a cozy office retreat with window seats and abundant storage is one of many successful conversions. Updating and freshening the color palette was also a primary goal. For the main living space, jamesthomas used bold, rich colors accented by soft neutrals and textured materials creating a dramatic study in contrast: a crystal chandelier is paired with rough cut stone on the fireplace and the sheen of luxurious mohair is contrasted to the sharp angles of an iconic, glass coffee table. The spaces are comfortable and inviting yet have an underlying masculine quality which is enhanced through the use of colors, materials, and objects d’art. What was originally a house that lacked personality is now a home that reflects the individual tastes and aesthetics of the proud owners. |
