| Located at 2800 North Lake Shore Drive, with unprecedented views south to Lincoln Park, Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline, this compact, 900 square foot, one-bedroom unit was transformed into a jewel box of a space. Used primarily as an in-town residence for an executive who resides in Hong Kong, the overall concept for this space was to re-create a luxury hotel suite. Stripped down to the studs, jamesthomas was able to expand the kitchen, carve out a dining banquette area with an adjacent reading nook that is completed by an unexpected, high-tech fireplace. The lounge area is separated from the sleek bedroom by a large millwork piece which maximizes the limited storage and enhances the concept of compartmentalization which is so critical in small spaces. By utilizing few materials (such as the dark sapelli millwork and the soft cream porcelain tiles which run the length of the home) we were able to create a cohesive, tranquil feel amongst all of the spaces. The end result is a contemporary, but warm urban get-away. |
